Generosity Ladder
Purpose: The Generosity Ladder will allow individuals in your group to fully grasp God's plan for their time, talent, & treasure. By acknowledging their current levels of stewardship, group members can chart out the steps they need to take in order to handle their money, time, & talent in a way that honors God.
Scriptures:
Proverbs 11:24-25 - Being Generous
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.Matthew 6:19-21- A Giving Heart
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 - Being Generous
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Luke 21:1-4 - Giving from the heart
John 3:16-18 - Jesus’ Ultimate Sacrifice
Teach:
Sharing, Serving, and Sacrifice.
When we look at the Scriptures we can see that we serve and follow a very generous God. Imagine, if we could have similar hearts in multiple areas of our lives. Using money as our guide, we will explore where we each are in our generosity. Imagine if in our generosity we were willing to share, serve, and sacrifice as Christ did for those around us.
Levels of Generosity:
1st Time Giver: This is someone who gives to the church for the first time. The step is only able to be taken once.
Consistent Giver: This is someone who gives consistently, but doesn’t give a consistent amount or percentage.
Percentage Giver: This is someone who gives consistently a percentage of their income, but less than 10%.
Tither: This is someone who gives 10% of their income.
Sacrificial Giver: This is someone who gives above and beyond a tithe and chooses to sacrifice and be extremely generous.
Areas of Generosity:
Treasure - Finances
Time - How we steward our most precious resource
Talent - Serving others with our spiritual gifts and talents
Group Action Steps:
Ask your group to evaluate themselves and plot which step of the Generosity Ladder they are on. Starting with finances challenge them in the areas of money, serving, and talent.
Questions to ask:
Where would you plot yourself on this ladder currently?
What is the next step you need to take to move up this ladder?
What is keeping you from moving up the ladder or taking a step in this area of your life?
Where do you feel you need to improve? (This may be an opportunity to walk individuals through a learning circle moment and create a plan.)
What would whole-life generosity look like to you?
